(A/N: This is now considered a Sam x Male!Reader, but will still be put as a Cain one, for organization purposes)

__

It was the final hour now. Sam watched quietly as Dean prepared the final dose. You were watching him with a lewd grin on your face.

"You wanna know what Cain did, Dean-O?" Dean froze, but ignored your comment. "Oh, I have the scars to prove he ravaged me. Ruined me for anyone, honestly." Dean walked to the needle and put the human blood in it. Sam couldn't listen. He turned away and shut his eyes tight. "Oh, Sammy, am I bothering you?" Sam flinched, avoiding looking at you. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know hearing about what Cain did bothered you." You chuckled, leaning back in the chair. "Go on, Dean. Put that last injection in me. Won't do you any good. I still have the Mark." Dean finally spoke up

"We're looking for a cure now." You scoffed.

"A cure? You're joking, right? You of all people should know there is no cure for the Mark. There is only remission and relapse." Dean glared at you as he put the needle into your neck. You let out a growl, thrashing around in the chair. "I'll tear you limb from goddamn limb!" Sam turned to look, nodding at Dean as he prepared the final part of the cure. He started saying the Latin spell, standing in front of you. You growled, lunging forward as he pressed the palm of his hand against your mouth, smearing it with human blood. You let out an earsplitting scream, body shaking and flashing with an orange light as the cure worked its way through your system. Sam watched, jaw clenched as you struggled in Dean's grip, Dean fighting to keep a hold. He shouted the last part, pressed his hand down hard, then backed away, holding his hand.

"He bit me!" The brothers looked at you, slumped over and breathing heavily. They both looked at each other, then Sam stepped forward, lifting your head up slowly.

"..(Y/n)?" There was a beat of silence, then you slowly began to stir, shifting a little. Dean started and ran upstairs to get a blanket for you as you started to shiver. Sam shuffled closer, searching your face for any sign of the old you. He held his breath as your eyes fluttered open, dull (e/c) eyes staring back at him. It was as if he was looking back to when you were just sixteen years old, small and frightened. His heart fluttered as your eyes brightened at the sight of him.

"S-Sam..?" Sam let out a choked sob, untying you fron the chair and letting you fall into his arms. Your arms wrapped around him tightly in a hug, face nuzzling into his neck. "Sammy..." Sam nodded quickly, tears streaming down his face.

"It's me, (Y/n)..It's me...You're home now. You're finally home.." Dean stood quietly in the doorway, holding the blanket as he watched the two finally reunite.

It's not like you healed over night. It took a few weeks before you could even look at yourself in the mirror. You chose to sleep in Sam's room as well after the first few nightmares hit, causing you to wake up screaming in the middle of the night, Sam and Dean running in with their guns pulled out, Dean only wearing boxers and Sam in pajama pants and a t-shirt. In any other situation, you would have laughed at their disarray, but you were too busy sobbing into Sam's shoulder to really care. He picked you up bridal style and carried you to his room, where you stayed the rest of the night, huddled close to him. He kept a tight hold on you as hell, arms wrapped around your middle protectively.

It was about three days till Christmas. Cas was watching Dean put up the tree, you were making dinner, and Sam was helping you whenever something sharp was involved. Dean paused when he heard a loud crash from the kitchen, then two people bursting into a fit of giggles. You and Sam were on the floor, covered in flour, laughing your asses off as Sam tried to collect the fallen pan and flour bag. Dean only shook his head and continued putting on the lights. Cas looked back over, speaking after a moment.

"How is he doing?" Dean glanced back.

"Sam? Or (Y/n)." Cas shrugged.

"Either." Dean nodded a little, looking back at you and Sam, who was currently having a bag of flour dumped on his head. Dean smiled.

"Sam's..he's better. He sleeps more than he did when (Y/n) was gone. (Y/n)'s nightmares are lessening."

"I could take the memories away, Dean. He wouldn't have to remember what Cain-" Dean held up his hand, then shook his head. Cas frowned. "You're choosing to let the boy suffer?"

"God no, Cas. (Y/n)'s like a brother to me.." He sighed and turned away. "(Y/n) told me he wanted to remember. It's like he still remembers his old life back before Sam found him." Cas nodded in understanding, falling silent. After a moment, you and Sam came out from the kitchen, still covered in flour. Sam was laughing as you tried to get flour out of your hair, the white powder getting all over the floor.

"Hey, Dean." Sam grinned up at his older brother, who was watching in dismay.

"What the hell is this?" he asked, a hint of laughter in his voice. You piped up, sitting down next to Cas.

"We had a bit of an accident back in the kitchen." Dean grinned.

"I can see that. How the hell did the flour get in yours and Sam's hair?" Sam and you looked at each other, then started tolaugh.

"Sam started it!"

"No way! You were the one who dropped the pan on the floor!" Dean shook his head as you and Sam bickered for a moment, Cas watching fondly.

After a while, the tree was finished, Dean making it very clear he was done with the world and that the next time anyone would see him, it would be New Years. You were sitting next to the tree, reading a book, Sam was sitting on the couch with his laptop, and Cas..Well, Cas disappeared a while ago. It was just you and Sam. The two of you didn't mind really. It was nice company.

You were quiet for a moment, before you shut your book and got up, sitting next to Sam with a small sigh. He glanced at you and wrapped his arm around your shoulders. It was silent for a moment, then you spoke softly, resting your head against Sam's chest.

"I'm sorry, Sam." Sam blinked and looked down at you, eyebrows raised.

"For what?" He watched you curiously as you shifted, breathing in his scent and relaxing.

"I shouldn't have taken the Mark. I let my emotions overrule my better judgement. I'm an idiot.." You sighed ,frowning. Sam shook his head, lifting your face up so your gaze met his.

"You aren't an idiot, (Y/n). You made a mistake...But it was for a good cause, if that makes sense. Dean's a lot happier than he was three years ago, honestly. ANd look, you're here with us.." You watched him for a moment.

"Cain...He said you didn't care about me. Is..." He covered your mouth with his hand, eyes wide.

"Don't." You blinked a few times, making soft mumbling noises from behind his hand. "(Y/n) I care for you more than anything in the world. Why do you think I brought you with me and saved you back there?" You mumbled something, and Sam removed his hand.

"Because you felt sorry for me?" Sam shook his head.

"Not even close." You frowned. "I care about you. I care about all the people I save and meet. But, it seems that over the time we've known each other, I've grown to care about you even more than just as a friend.." You stared at Sam for a moment, quiet. He continued when you didn't speak. "I was devastated when I heard you were being hurt by Cain. It hurt me more when I saw you that day back at his home. I.." His voice caught in his throat. "What I'm trying to say is, I care so much about you. And-" He felt a pair of lips cover his own, cutting him off mid sentence. It took him a moment to realize you were kissing him, your hand resting on the side of his face. Before he could respond, you pulled back, frowning.

"Say no more, Moose." He made a face at the name. "I'll admit...I don't think I would have survived if not for the dreams I had." Sam raised an eyebrow.

"Dreams?" You nodded.

"I had dreams of when we first met." Sam was quiet for a moment beofre he responded, thinking that over.

"I had dreams like that too.." he revealed. You stared at him, then broke into a grin. Sam was confused as to why you were grinning, so he asked. You shook your head.

"It's nothing. Maybe a coincidence." He smiled and watched you fondly as you got confortable, continuing to read.
